I've been wanting to stretch myself with my photography. Not just with learning how to better use light and to use lights, but also to dabble in other kinds of photography. I got this assignment to capture LA fashions. Let me tell you, I wasn't sure if it would be easy or not. Having to walk up to strangers, explian what you want, to have them tell you no, or worse, to find out there were another set of girl's out taking photos for a magazine (or blog) and that they were beating us to all the fabulously dressed people!!!!!! Oh the agony. Haha. No, but it was fun. I learned that I can take a rejection and keep going on to the next person. I would like to get some edgier dressed people. LA has so many edgy fashions, and I think capturing some of them would be pretty cool. Just gotta find my extroverison. These fashions will be posted in Coeus Magazine (coeusmagazine.com).
I also learned that los Angelicans appear to always be either a hurry or they look like they don't want to be bothered. Sigh. Where are all the happy, shiny people? Maybe at the Oscars?
This blog is about my adventures in being a portrait photographer out here in sunny Los Angeles. The adventures are real, although the names at times, may be false.

Jenie Sneak Peak
Oh world, oh you funny, funny world, how you can change in only one day. I don't know if I'll finish editing Jenie's photos tonight like I orginally planned, so here is a sneak peak to tide you over until then.

Lady, put away your gun
It's 9am. You are standing outside a house, it doesn't have the right number. You walk around, oh there it is. You walk up to the door. Knock. Wait a few seconds. It opens. Standing in front of you is a guy only wearing boxers. What would you do?
I asked my friend that earlier today. She replied back "I'd imagine, I'd tell him hello."
Welcome to my Marlon Brando inspired shoot. I wish I could have had wardrobe. A dude all wearing a tight tshirt, a fabulous motor cycle jacket, while stradling a motorcycle. So lovely. Needless to say, even without wardrobe and lighting making it difficult for me, I think I got some lovely shots.
At the end of the shoot the guy told me that I was the first person to shoot him with his clothes on. You know, he's not the first person to tell me that. Maybe I'm doing things backwards here.

For now
It's one day later from my first model experience. I don't know if being in front of the camera has taught me all that much. Apparently I'm a "natural" in front of the camera. Whatever that means. I do know those first 5 minutes were the worst. I will be kinder and more directive for the first 5 minutues to all of you guys. When you are standing there, the camera is looking at you, and all you can think is, now what? I will try to tell you what. I got to meet some nice folks and it turned out to be a decent time. =) When I recieve the photos I will make sure to post some.
Two days ago, I did my fourth shoot with Jenie. We met at Elysian Park. I've never been there and all I knew about it was that men will cruise for other men there. That it's sketchy and dangerous. That early Sunday morning, it was nothing like that. Esme drove us around it, it kind of winds round and round. Such gorgeous city views from all around from downtown to Highland park area. I was like wow. I would love to just sit and swoon over over the views one day. It was a cold morning, but Jenie braved the cold to get some good photos. I will post some sneak peaks later this week.
All of you in good old Louisiana, celebrate some Mardi Gras for me. Laissez le bon temps rouler!

A first
I'm sitting here in my room folding laundry trying to think through all the things I need to bring tomorrow. What is tomorrow you ask? Well, it's my first ever photoshoot. I know you just said what? Ashley, you shoot all the time. Yeah, behind the camera. Tomorrow I'm going to be in front of the camera. I'm not the type of girl who likes attention or who even wants the camera pointed at her. In fact, I normally freeze up and act all weird when the camera is pointed at me. I'm trying to keep my mind open and to hope this experience isn't awful. Haha. My friend told me that it's a chance to get some good pictures of myself. So in the least, I will hopefully get some good photos of myself. In the most, I'll show myself that I can do things that I never even considered doing.
